Ojinnaka charged with battery

Atlanta Falcons offensive lineman Quinn Ojinnaka ended up arrested and in jail after, of all things, fighting with his wife over hisr activity on Facebook.

The lineman was charged with battery and later released on bond.

Ojinnaka was apparently confronted by his wife after the lineman was contacted by another woman through the website. The lineman threw her down some steps and then out of the house.

The lineman’s story is quite different, as he said his wife started the fight by attempting to stab him with a pen and he was simply acting in self defense. That probably isn’t going to hold up considering he probably outweighs his wife by 200 pounds.

Vick released from prison

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has been released from a federal prison and transported from Kansas all the way back to his home in Virginia, where he will be under house arrest.

Vick was expected to use his time not to think about football but to get used to life outside of his prison cell and to have the chance to spend a lot of time with his family.

The former quarterback also met with his probation officer, and Vick has been warned that any time of screw-up with result in a trip back to the federal penetentiary in Kansas.

At some point, Vick will turn his attention to football and the possibility of playing in the NFL once again. I’m sure a number of teams will show interest, but will they pull the trigger on the quarterback?

The Falcons have made it clear that Vick won’t be welcomed back in Atlanta, but they wish him well wherever he may land.

Vick wants a second chance

Still technically Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has been visited by former head coach Tony Dungy in prison, who said that the criminal wants a second chance in the NFL.

In fact, Vick desperately needs a second chance for monetary reasons because he has declared for bankruptcy. He has to let the judge know exactly how he plans on getting out of the financial mess.

It will be interesting to see what NFL commissioner Roger Goodell decides to do once Vick resurfaces this summer. Is he going to suspend him for a number of games?

Some believe that Goodell would suspend Vick for the entire season following his prison term and then allow for the possibility of reinstatement into the league.

However, others believe the commissioner has softened his stance on Vick and just wants to see him commit to being a law-abiding citizen.

Gonzalez has first practice with Falcons

Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez went through his first practice with his new team, a strange sight for a player who spent his entire career with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Quarterback Matt Ryan seemed thrilled to have Gonzalez in camp, stating that it’s always exciting when you get a new toy to have the chance to play around with it.

The Falcons are convinced that adding Gonzalez to the offense is going to help out the second-year quarterback by giving him a key weapon in the red zone and a check-down option.

Gonzalez believes that the Falcons are on the cusp of becoming one of the league’s top offensive clubs with a strong running game, a big-time receiver and an up-and-coming quarterback.

The early practices should give Ryan and Gonzalez the opportunity to get comfortable with one another and develop a chemistry before the start of the season.

Falcons get help for d-line

The Atlanta Falcons drafted defensive tackle Peria Jerry from Mississippi with the No. 24 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

The Falcons then continued the upgrade of their defense in the second round, selecting safety William Moore out of Missouri.

It’s clear that defense was a huge priority heading into this draft as the Falcons found themselves in a lot of shootouts last year.

The team is already plenty happy with its offensive attack, as second-year quarterback Matt Ryan had a great rookie season and is protected by a strong offensive line.

They also have a strong running game behind that offensive line and running back Michael Turner and a decent passing game with wide receiver Roddy White and new tight end Tony Gonzalez.
